Hi all,

Since completing my first Drupal powered site I have been asked for sites by several of my other clients.. I am consequently looking for a decent reseller/multisite hosting package.

One of the most attractive looking packages I've found is from streamline.net

£80/yr for
10 true domains
unlimited disk
unlimited bandwidth
red hat linux
5x mysql Db per domain
phpMyAdmin
Shell access

Has anyone had exprience with Streamline.net and in particular with this package?
Is there a catch? Are they slow or something?

As they have PHP & MySQL I'm guessing I shouldn't have any problem with Drupal but I did find an old forum post that claimed they didn't support mod-rewrite & clean URL's, does anyone know if this is (still) true?

They don't come with unlimited capacity (bandwidth, etc) but from what I've heard (and seen) companies that do *unlimited* cram sites on machines like nobodies business resulting in low performance esp. with a cpu intense app like drupal. They do however do umlimited domains and mysql dbs

What I particularly like about virtuoso is that you can buy the cheapest reseller package and steadily upgrade as more sites become hosted. Apparently upgrading is as easy as requesting it and stumping up a bit more a month. The only thing that takes a bit more effort to upgrade to is a dedicated.

It has also been recommended by a few people in the '2006 hosting providers evaluations' thread.

Virtuosonetsolutions list PHP as CGI, not mod_php or a PHP accelerator.

I started a post on Virtuoso Net Solutions where I ask about PHP. Perhaps people using PHP on Virtuoso Net Solutions for anything other than the default settings could list the changes they made, or had made for them, without having to recompile Apache or PHP.

Though I've not yet built a site using Drupal, I have been a Streamline customer for some time, and have found them to be very good, with excellent performance and very robust.

...and actually they're not as sweet as I'd hoped.

Fair's fair, they are VERY cheap but I tried out the unlimited user package and didn't like it one bit. Their control panel feels cheap and tacky with a fraction of the features you'd expect from a cPanel site and their phpMyAdmin is REALLY out of date (think 2 years! - pretty much a bare SQL prompt!)

Also, their server objects to just about everything in the .htaccess file, bringing up a helpfully generic 'server error' page when you first install Drupal. I took a look at their PHP config and alarm bells went off when I saw that 'magic quotes' were on... after going through it, pretty much the only thing that was supported was mod_rewrite (tho I suppose this is the most important bit).

When I mailed back the sales guy who had assured me they fully support drupal he claimed they have customers using it, which they no doubt do (with bastardised .htaccess files of course) but by that point I'd decided to look elsewhere...

In the end I plumped for buyHTTP.com's mini-reseller account.. this is $25 (£13 atm) a month for unlimited domains, databases & mailboxes and 1.5Gb storage / 50Gb bandwidth. I'm very happy with them so far, the speed seems good and their WHM / cPanel / phpMyAdmin are all up to date.. and they've got fantastico too.

I can't speak for their tech support as I haven't had call to use them yet, but this in itself speaks well of them :0)
