How to make a CCK widget setting translateable?

Hello

I am a maintainer of the markup module, which through a pseudo cck field allows html markup to be placed on the node edit form.

The content of the markup element is set in the field's settings, similar to the way cck stores allowed values etc.

I would like to make this field i18n compatible and present the user with a different markup settings element for each language. How would I achieve this, is there a simple way of making a field / widget setting translatable?

I would be grateful for any tips, pointers or examples on how to achieve this.
