1. Abandoned Carts - If a cart is not purchased, it creates an opportunity in CiviCRM on "Opportunity tab" with lost cart amount as Total, with the ability to schedule a follow up action (call/email).
2. Product Sales Groups - When a customer purchases a product, they are added to a group in CiviCRM for that product. Now, we can email all people who bought a particular product (this needs more thought - also would need a date filter)
3. Auto responder Lists - When cart is purchased, option to include them on CiviCRM group that can send scheduled follow up emails / calls (this could be done through an AutomatedProcess or Rules like module).
4. Customer Service Capabilities - when communicating through the Ubercart order admin screen, the emails/messages are stored on CiviCRM record for all employees to view.

Hypothetical needs, would be wonderful. Willing to split into separate issue if anyone feels like these are needed.

Also please look at http://infoathand.com/ they have a fully integrated SugarCRM-like CRM, Joomla, Virtuemart, and Quickbooks.

There are several routes you could go with this.

Integrating CiviCRM purchasing with Ubercart is key. With this module and UC CiviCRM Product you can enjoy all the benefits of Ubercart's CRM and order management features for any CiviContribute transaction (as it would be treated as a product). This may accomplish #4 and #2 - though it may not be able to be administrated via CiviCRM in its current manifestation.

As far as 2. is concerned - this could be done with some customization of this module. For example, you may want to create a group for event registrants, or one for registrants of a particular event. As long as the purchasing data is passed from ubercart to CiviCRM (as this module and the UC CiviCRM Product module are doing), you can create smart groups in CiviCRM for each membership type, donation campaign, event, etc.

If you want to get more integrated with an ERP/CRM/Accounting solution, you may want to take a peek at XTuple's integration with Drupal/Ubercart. Xtuple is a FOSS client/server ERP, CRM solution that can handle some pretty advanced functionality.

Also - Slavoj I did not know you were a web developer as well as a political/social philosopher! ;)

I'm not actually slavojzizek ;) but I appreciate his work.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I will look into your suggestions and Xtuple. Do you have any implementations using that stack successfully?

CiviCRM/ Ubercart / Drupal 6/ Xtuple Postbooks ?

Sorry it took me a while to get back on this, it somehow got beneath my radar. My main thoughts here are that there are workarounds for several of these issues (as rerooting says), but that in order to add them in a well integrated and natural feeling way I'd need to write a lot of code that I currently don't have time to write.

Patches and/or suggestions are (of course) welcome if you think there is a tweak or three that would make our module friendly with other modules that implement some of the functions you would like.

AJA - it looks like http://drupal.org/project/uc_civicrm_product is chugging along as well and I would suggest keeping an eye to make sure you aren't unnecessarily duplicating eachother's work, and that maybe you could look at collaborating in some fashion (in fact, with some work, their module could indeed become a submodule of yours). This functionality is really high on the radar, as CiviCRM has expressed that they will never bring e-commerce into their core project, so its really on you guys to make it happen!

I would love to submit patches, but I am fairly new when it comes to actual drupal development (I just submitted my first patch last week). I was getting into this quite a bit because we were working on a major proposal that included this functionality, however we didnt land the gig, so next time we get some work in CiviCRM <> Ubercart integration, I will be glad to have myself or some and/or some of our team members jump on board with this.

That last bit sounds great :). I've been particularly busy lately, and though these features would be excellent, I haven't got much time to look into them. If you do get time or are commissioned to work on some of the things that you're looking for, I can be available for questions (though I can't guarantee quick turnaround at the moment).

Thanks for the pointer to the product module, I'll follow up when I get the chance.
