Under a new section: Sandbox projects?

One other suggestion: Only show Josh The Geek: Blah, not Josh The Geek's Sandbox: Blah.

Actually, an extra optgroup sounds good. I talked to mikey_p and he said he thought it was doable.

Spec:
Only local images are allowed.

Actually, 'Sandboxes' sounds better.

The plan above is consistent with the the overall sandbox visibility strategy.

See #1031578: [Meta] Reflect a consistent strategy for sandbox visibility for strategy discussion if needed.

Moving this into Project issue tracking for implementation.

Okay, sure, that seems good.

Priority: Normal » Critical

Upping to critical, this is a UI issue that needs solving before code freeze.

This is actually in Project.

From IRC:

[9:44pm] dww: eliza411: will sandbox projects have the same project taxonomy? i assume yes.
[9:45pm] dww: if you goto http://drupal.org/node/add/project-issue and wait for the monsterous (and utterly useless UI) select box to load...
[9:45pm] dww: there are opt groups for each project type
[9:45pm] dww: eliza411: can there even be nested opt groups?
[9:46pm] dww: eliza411: if not, do I just group all sandboxes into a giant opt-group at the end?
[9:46pm] dww: frankly, this form is useless.
[9:46pm] eliza411: dww: it is a difficult form. I have to use it all the time on this project.
…
[9:47pm] dww: eliza411: it should probably be AJAXy and you select a project type, and then it let's you drill down if you need. should also allow auto-complete text area
[9:47pm] dww: eliza411: anyway, I'm not sure what to really do with this issue.
[9:48pm] dww: seems kinda dumb to rush in something if this page needs more serious UI love.
[9:48pm] eliza411: dww: I'm with you on that ... I'd been sort of expected, without really engaging just how ginormous it will become, that sandboxes would NOT be grouped by type.
[9:49pm] eliza411: dww: that they'd be just alphabetical at the bottom.
[9:49pm] eliza411: dww: I'd be willing to call this a known issue (the closer we are to deadlines the less love I feel for sandboxes) and roll out a plan to do it right.
…
[9:50pm] dww: well, I guess i have to do *something* since right now sandboxes are just interspersed with the rest of the projects by type, with no indication
[9:50pm] eliza411: dww: eww, yeah, in that case you do.
[9:50pm] dww: I could just hide them.
[9:51pm] dww: if you want to submit an issue for a sandbox, start on the sandbox project page and click. ;)
[9:51pm] dww: i.e. don't make this form suck any *more* b/c of sandboxes.
[9:51pm] eliza411: dww: hiding them is relatively easy?
[9:52pm] dww: yes
[9:52pm] dww: s/relatively/extremely/
…
[10:34pm] sdboyer: dww: my preference would be for the type-undifferentiated group at the bottom
[10:34pm] dww: sdboyer: uhh, okay. i guess we don't mind if this mushrooms into a drop-down with 10K+ entries, huh? ;)
[10:35pm] • sdboyer muses
[10:36pm] sdboyer: dww: … you're right - if you want to open an issue on a sandbox, do it directly from the queue
[10:36pm] dww: sdboyer: yay
[10:37pm] sdboyer: dww: b/c really, sandbox growth is gonna be _explosive_
