I would really like to see this two features in Acidfree, even if had to combine with other modules.

watermarks can supposedly be done with some other module already.

If you want gallery remote, why not just use gallery?

There's a module that works with image, not with Acidfree, as much as i know.

Because Acidfree is better integrated with drupal, more simple/clean.

Acidfree 5.0 is based on the Image module and can thus do the watermarks. Acidfree 4.7 is closed for feature requests.

I think the remote images sounds interesting, but I am not sure how that would work. It would probably involve creating a new node type. This would be the kind of thing that an Acidfree contrib module would be good for.
