Acidfree Albums

vhmauery - August 2, 2005 - 22:33

A full-featured media management system for drupal. This makes it so you can easily manage your photos and videos with drupal. Acidfree albums and media items are drupal nodes to integrate better into your system. It offers themeable drawing routines for albums and each media type so it can fit in better with the rest of your website. Items can be added individually (the drupal node-centric method) and also via a mass-import page that allows server-side directories of media to be imported or zipped, bzipped or gzipped archives to be uploaded and imported.

Drupal 5.0 Acidfree release

I have just made a DRUPAL-5 branch of Acidfree. This lets me have a 5.x development snapshot for more people to test out. Since this was such a disruptive rewrite from the previous two versions of Acidfree, it has taken me a lot longer to work out all the wrinkles. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This new version of Acidfree uses the Taxonomy, Image, Video, and Views modules to create an interface that is very similar to older versions of Acidfree. However, since it will be based on other node types, it fits in with the Drupal Way better and should give a better unified media management system to Drupal. Please take some time to test the upgrade / installation of this new development version of Acidfree. Post any bugs you find to the issue queue and please let me know of your successes as well, so I can better gauge how close we are to a stable release.

Please take note that acidfree-4.6 and acidfree-4.7 are in maintanence mode only -- no new features will be added, only bugfixes. If you want new features, you will have to get acidfree-5.0.

Updates

10 Feb 1008: After 10 months of slumber, I have finally emerged triumphant. I have finally brushed the dust off the crufty changes I wanted to merge in so long ago but couldn't because of API issues with the Video module. Now that I am a co-maintainer of the Video module, I helped push in those changes. Now, I don't think this new release will necessarily fix any of the issues you have been seeing, but at lease it gives me a new base to work from. But really I will probably just ignore the 5.0 requests and work on creating a 6.0 release... Yes, that sounds like a lot more fun.

9 Apr 2007: We have a development snapshot now. This will hopefully get more testing visibility so we can work out the last few bugs on the homestretch to a stable release.

6 Dec 2006: Shiny new theme coming your way. Along with the Acidfree-5.0 release, there will be a shiny new theme written by jaredwiltshire. It is a much cleaner theme and looks better in non-firefox browsers. So check out the CVS version and kick the tires a bit.

26 Aug 2006: more features implemented. I figured since I did the work to fix some bugs, I could have some fun and implement some features. Acidfree now sports per user albums, shared albums, per album sorting, and a new block (add Acidfree items quick links). So check it out. But make sure you do a database update after installing the new Acidfree code or you will see error messages.
