On the config page "Mapping for Node" processor if you DO NOT select any fields for 'SOURCE' and 'TARGET' and click the ADD button a maping is saved with values 'Select a source' => 'Select a target'.
Then, if you go to import and try to start an import you receive a fatal error:
"An AJAX HTTP error occurred. HTTP Result Code: 200 Debugging information follows. Path: /d7sb/batch?id=32&op=do StatusText: OK ResponseText: ( ! ) Fatal error: Cannot access empty property in *\sites\all\modules\contrib\feeds\plugins\FeedsProcessor.inc on line 506 "

This is certainly an issue.
The original issue summary explains the problem correctly.

I had almost the same problem, except that I did use a value for the SOURCE but not for the TARGET when adding a new mapping. The reason was that I wanted to add a dummy mapping to be able to use that source value in a rewrite for another field.

Later on, I found out that there was a "Temporary target" (at the end of the list) value in TARGET that I needed to select for what I wanted to achieve. It's not that obvious If you have a lot of fields in your target node as the "Temporary target" does not stand out as a "special value".

Although a workaround exists, it might be hard for some users to find out what is wrong. There is no error when adding the mapping and you only notice it when executing the import. That error is not clear enough and if you have changed/added a lot of mappings it's not that easy to know what caused the problem.

I would say that adding a mapping with SOURCE or TARGET empty should not be allowed. Another solution would be to automatically convert "Select a target" with "Temporary target" as value. For "Select a source" a similar "Blank source" exists.
I don't know if it matters but I was using the "XPath XML parser" for the importer.

Temporary target and Blank source come from Feeds Tamper.

In the current dev, if I do any combination of "Select a source" and "Select a target", you get an appropriate error message. Are you still seeing this problem in dev?

This will be fixed in #1555974: "Save" button should also add field mapping; "Add" button should also save config changes.
