more informed module decisions - ratings and comments
I love Drupal. I'm always discovering new things to do with it and new ways to do them ... and more new ways ... and then I'm left wondering if I'm doing things in the best way. In the end, as long as it works, I'm happy, but I must say that I've always felt overwelmed by the options available when looking for modules to perform specific tasks.
So, I'm wondering if other people in the community feel this way, and wanted to say that I'd love to see the modules section of the site enhanced with comments and ratings so that users could provide feedback that would be valuable to other members of the community. People could provide ratings and discuss the implementations that they used the module for and talk about other modules with which it worked or didn't work. Users could post links to websites in which the module is being used allowing newcomers to see it in use. I think this would make it much easier to find the tools that really work and give people that extra incentive to download and install the module once they understand that it IS what they are looking for.
What do you all think?

a small sample of the various feature requests already posted (some with decent discussion about implementation details, already) to extend the modules pages to provide more info about the potential quality of the modules you're looking at:

always check the issues
Before proceeding with ANY module download nowadays, my first visit is always to the 'view all issues' list.
That gives me a feel for the activity, uses that people are putting it to, and stability of the module.
I'd like if the issues register also included a 'feedback' or notes classification rather than just 'bugs and tasks'
I sometimes post back simple FYI contributions on my results with a module - successful as well as problematic - into the 'issues' in order to flesh out these projects with more info.

Great idea -- action items
Great idea -- as dww / derek has pointed to, lots of these are outstanding feature requests.
Specific things you can do to make this happen:
* set up a test site with all the modules you think we should use
* document all the config settings
* make notes on any custom features or changes
Regardless of use on Drupal.org, these kind of "recipe" write ups are very valuable.
Thanks.
This is great
I'm glad to see there is already a lot of interest in this. Thanks for all the pointers and tips. I'll browse through all the other proposals and get involved with them.
