The Drupal module now gathers data on the installed base of Drupal modules. Each Drupal install that enables the Drupal module can post data to drupal.org on its enabled modules and themes. As well as enabling browsing by project 'popularity', see this issue, we might want to display usage data on each project's page. What would we want to show? The absolute number of registered installs? A percentage ranking?

geodaniel commentedIt may also be interesting to see the project usage over time. This will probably be skewed to start with, as the number of people reporting in increases and increases, but may be good further down the road when the numbers stablise a little.
Could Jeff Eaton's recent Sparklines module filter be useful in showing the stats?
