any news on this subject - I really need Image Captions for my clients?

image caption is an html object, not a part of an image file. Therefore, your request should belong to where the image html is created. IMCE is just used to provide image information to any html creator(editor). using tinymce? fckeditor?
if you're using IMCE's inline image insertion feature you can always manipulate imce_set_inline.js to make it create the html code you want.

thanks for clearing it up for me.
I'm using FCKeditor, but I'm not really sure where to edit the html in that module.

anyway - not a problem with your module.
