Dear Morbus,
derek advised me to post here (in this thread http://drupal.org/node/108080), because of a little thing that could help me on my university site, but which can certainly be helpful to other users as well.
Basically, it would be nice if a case could remain unassigned until someone (of a special role, ideally) comes and assigns himself for it. The best would be to enable that feature already in the list of cases via a single click, to make it as quick and easy to use as possible. Then, the assignment should be locked, so that no other user can assign himself to the same case. Only himself (if he changes his mind) or an administrator should be able to reassign the case.
It's all about assigning task on a first come, first serve basis.
If it's not too much work, it would be really nice to see that feature implemented. Unfortunately, this is for a university, non-profit site, so I cannot pay for it, but if you don't manage to do it, it doesn't matter, I will assign the jobs to the first person commenting. It's not that elegant, but an acceptable backup solution.
In any case, thank you for this great module,
Felix.

morbus iffI suspect this would be possible with a form_alter in a custom module. I don't have time to rig up something properly in core right now, but I'll certainly keep it in mind. (I don't like the feature itself, but I can see how it'd be useful, so I'd end up making a setting for it.)

felixsmile commentedThank you very much, just do it if you have a minute (or several...), one day. I can see why you don't like it, maybe it's more a kind of task for the sign up module (they had a similar thread here http://drupal.org/node/32482). Probably, it could be useful in some communities, where one would like to start working on a project and be sure no one else is going to do the same, nor interfere with it.
Have a nice day,
Felix.

Gofo commentedI've been looking at various CMS's (and even considered forum software) for some easy way to do this. I am interested in having this feature as well. It would be useful for this artsy-fartsy thing we have for teens, where they're supposed to choose among different ideas that they can "realize" through their art. It would be a one-artist-per-idea thing, and they would be free to let go of a project if they honestly think that it's not really what they want.

jmiccolis commentedCasetracker is under new management and there are no plans to work on the 4.7 branch.
