Just FYI: I just installed the 2.x-dev version (hoping to test media browser). Any attempt to edit a profile or save on 'admin/config/content/wysiwyg' leads to the error: Fatal error: Class name must be a valid object or a string in .../includes/common.inc on line 7394.
It turns out it is due to the button for Footnotes Wysiwyg. If I activate the button in the editor screen, sometimes the error appears, but more often, the CKeditor itself simply does not show up on content edit page.
I did a quick check to see if 2.0 version of wysiwyg worked, and I had the same problem.
However, [fn] works even if the button is not activated.

hingo commentedI tested the Footnotes 7.x-2.5 release on the Wysiwyg 7.x-2.0 and it worked without errors. (There are issues with newer versions of CKEditor, but that is not what you describe here.)
I think it is likely the -dev snapshot of Wysiwyg is simply in a broken state. For now, no action on the footnotes side is necessary.
