I cannot seem to find how to allow multiple file selections (by using shift, ctrl etc.) I'm sure it is right in front of me but I cannot figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Multiple file selection is for the files that are already uploaded.
There is currently no multi-upload feature in IMCE. You may have a look at imce_swfupload project for this feature.
