Adding Description to Front Page

Maybe I'm missing something, but is there a way to get a description added to the home page of a drupal install? I have added it to several content types and it's working fine. I just haven't found how to add it to the home page when it isn't a specific node. And I assume it wouldn't work for a View I have set up either, right?
