password reset email erases / removes role

Can't find anything on the support list about this issue...this is a recent development that we're trying to track down. Users are having their "contestant" role removed when they use the password reset email and click on the link. The contestant role is bestowed on them when they sign up through a module called Auto Assign Role (http://drupal.org/project/autoassignrole). Anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!
