The Views displays module, based on Display suite, plays nicely with Views attach.

It exposes the view as a field to be positioned in the build mode display configuration form.

Might be a good idea to put a link to this module? When I tried this, I was not aware that the combination of vd and views_attach would solve my problem.

Well, as a Views display plugin VA plays nicely with a whole host of modules. That's kinda the point. :-) I don't think listing all of them is really worthwhile, as we could never list all modules that happen to work well with Views display plugins.
