drush dl l10n_install

readable or does not exist.
Project l10n_install (6.x-1.0-beta3) could not be downloaded to      [error]
/var/www/drupal/drupal-6.20/profiles/l10n_install.

Supposedly we are to use l10n_install in favor of downloading a language, but sadly this does not work. The request was to start a new issue, even though this seems to be the same. In any case, any help would be greatly appreciated.

make sure you can actually read from /tmp. if you can't, configure php to use a different temp dirctory.

I have worked around this issue by not using l10n_install module.

Simply install standard drupal package and install l10n_update module. Your Drupal core and contrib modules should then be translated when you enable more languages.
