printing date field token in email leads to html code being written in the date field

This is more of a notice for others. I used the other tokens to construct the date that I wanted. The only thing is that there is not a token for "am/pm" or timezone that I can add.

I used a template with Tokens for signup.

A user signed up for an event.

I used a token to display the date field

This is a confirmation of your signup for:
Title: My Event Test
Date: May 18 2011 - 10:00am class="date-display-separator"> - 10:45am

the template sent out was:

Dear [user-name],

This is a confirmation of your signup for:
Title: [title]
Date: [field_date_datetime-view]
