Same thing for me, imagecrop work when he want to, but not smoothely like avatar crop in D6.

Has anyone gotten any of the imagecrop modules to work with the user profile pic? I'm also using imagecache profiles (http://drupal.org/project/imagecache_profiles) .

Well I get this to work now on D7 but you must use dev version and check few options in Media->imagecrop setting
