Moderation methodology

I've been using Drupal to manage a community site in support of a regional IT oriented organization for a few years now. In doing my planning for the upgrade to Drupal 7, I've been identifying those modules that appear to be abandoned so I can either find an alternative or work around of some type if possible.

Of real concern to others helping manage this site is Mod8:

Among the reasons why others like this is that a block is shown upon login to those with moderation roles on pending posts waiting in the moderation que. Can anyone suggest some other module(s) or methodology that is currently maintained so as to accomplish much the same actions? Thanks!
