Putting crowd wisdom to work. I snagged some of this from a google blog.

"Posted by Bo Cowgill, Project Manager - http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/09/putting-crowd-wisdom-to-work.html

At Google, we're constantly trying to find new ways to organize the world's information, including information relevant to our business. Building on the ideas of Friedrich Hayek and the Iowa Electronic Markets, a few Googlers (Doug Banks, Patri Friedman, Ilya Kirnos, Piaw Na and me, with some help from Hal Varian), set up a predictive market system inside the company.

The markets were designed to forecast product launch dates, new office openings, and many other things of strategic importance to Google. So far, more than a thousand Googlers have bid on 146 events in 43 different subject areas (no payment is required to play)."

More on prediction markets here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prediction_markets

I will mentor anyone that wants to learn more about prediction markets. Contact me via drupal jwilde.

Kind regards,

Jim

What would the project actually do?

Jim, the subject matter is interesting, but the actual goal of the project is unclear. We need to specify deliverables.

Prediction markets - Drupal
Summit - March 15, 2007 - 05:27

Hi,

I saw the comment of Zocalo http://drupal.org/node/111198#comment-191548
He is interested to make a module to combine the good of both systems.
I think then a lot is in place to build a prediction market website with Drupal.

Greetings,
Martijn

The guys at Inkling are using drupal to do PMs. Perhaps they'd like to get involved? http://inklingmarkets.com/

I'd love to see a contrib module for PMs, though I'd imagine the coding side would be bigger than a breadbasket--or a summer of code, as the case may be.

I've seen Bo from Google talk on the subject. Sounds like PMs are really leveraged inside of Google. Exciting stuff.

I don't believe inkling markets is using Drupal - see http://inklingmarkets.com/user which provides a 404

And I've added this module which has the aim of providing prediction markets within Drupal. Perhaps I'll propose it as a SOC again to get some help with some specific aspect of it, though, since google does love prediction markets.

Quite right. I double checked with my boss, who's worked with them before and they are, indeed, not on Drupal.
