Hello, a few weeks ago I had reported my aegir/octopus system had crashed and i was getting a 502 bad gateway
502 Bad Gateway

Barracuda/0.9.5
you advised me to upgrade to latest versions of barracuda/octopus and reboot. I did so and that seemed to solved the problem.
however, it did not. every week or every few days the system is crashing. all my aegir sites have to 502 gateway. I have "built"10 sites, but they have no traffic on them. so it cant be ram. i havent put any content on these sites yet or even installed more modules or themes. when i do reboot, it all comes back. but i cant have the system constantly crashing like this. this is not a test account, its for production sites. I have two accounts, one with aegir on it, the, now bash script running. the other system is doing fine. what on earth could be the problem? i dont understand these kinds of things. what about a https problem? when its not crashing and i go to my octopus site, i guess the red page warning banner that asked me if i still want to proceed. i dont have a ssl certificate because i dont understand them or what kind i would need. i just thought you needed them if you have a direct selling site that takes payments. or am i off track.

correction "the, now bash script running." should be "the other, has no bash script running, just a normal vps set up."

I will quote it here:

Reporting bugs is a great way to contribute to Barracuda. Mis-reporting bugs or duplicating reports, however, can be a distraction to the development team and waste precious resources. So, help out by following these guidelines for reporting bugs.

Before reporting a bug always search for similar bug report before submitting your own, and include as much information about your context as possible, including your server/VPS parent system name (like Xen) and/or hosting provider URL. Especially please include the contents of files:

/var/aegir/config/includes/barracuda_log.txt
/var/aegir/install.log (remove the password)

Also, what amount of RAM do you have there?

First let me say, if i have posted this situation under the wrong catagory in bug issues, i am sorry, i dont know if this is a bug or something else. i have been very confused where and what to post. i have no idea what is going on. anyway, since the last 502 gateway crash, i have not rebooted since it would just crash again after a few days. thanks, i hope this is the correct info needed.

This sounds weird still, as we have our testing Linode instance with 1 GB RAM and it works perfectly. We test every release on Linode.

However, you are using *very old* BOA release, please upgrade to latest stable 1.0-boa-T-8.7 and let us know if this helped.

same problem with actual stable version 1.0-boa-T-8.7
the installer runs successfully but aegir. throws a 502 bad gateway.
no errrors found in all logs.

i've got also errors installing vnetd but i could fix it thanks to dgvmd:
https://github.com/omega8cc/nginx-for-drupal/issues/258#issuecomment-154...

here are the logs
/var/aegir/config/includes/barracuda_log.txt

Sa 9. Jul 17:27:16 CEST 2011 / Ubuntu.lucid x86_64 / Aegir HEAD / Barracuda 1.0$

var/aegir/install_log

http://pastie.org/2195156

i've also tried it several times with the stable and / or HEAD version and it always runs in 502 error. (i reset my virtual server every time to a fresh install state)

thanks in advance
kind regards
chris

@2primes

Please post your install logs as outlined in the bug submission guidelines, and include information about your server parent environment. Without those details we can't help you.

@socialtalker

Please download and use latest stable version of install/upgrade scripts. You are trying very old still - 1.0-boa-T-5 while latest stable is 1.0-boa-T-8.7

@2primes

So it is Virtuozzo or OpenVZ - in short, we don't use it, and we don't support it really. You should avoid it. Use Xen if possible.

To "fix" the problem, try to lower APC memory set in the /opt/etc/php.ini to something like 128 MB.

How much RAM do you have there, BTW?

iTiZZiMO’s picture

ok i will try it and inform you about the result. i've 2gb ram (fixed and guaranteed ) and up to 4 gb depending on server resoruces, when i run top@bash, 1,7 gb is used 300 mb free.
i hope the apc settings will fix the problem.

thank you very much for great help omega8cc

btw - some tips for your README.txt:
before i could start i've have to remove /etc/mysql/my.cnf and apache2 (ubuntu lucid 10.4 lts sever)
when i didnt, the installer stops at the question (Would you like replace my.cnf with other... Maria DB Setup).

@2primes

This sounds wrong - you should't have Apache or MySQL installed before running Barracuda install.

Barracuda requires OS *minimal* instal, and any proper minimal install never includes any http/sql services installed.

Plus it is already described in the readme.

I'm going to close this issue as both problems are caused by not following project readme.

iTiZZiMO’s picture

yes it was a fresh installation from our hoster. sorry.

you give me the right advise.
lower the memory of apc solved the problem

for all others :

file: /opt/etc/php.ini
apc.shm_size = 128M

I got this error as well and I eventually disable all modules (non-core) and enable them one by one to see what caused the error.

Here's a easy way to disable all non-core modules.
