Would def like to improve the current About page! I"m going to review these suggestions in detail; in some cases we might need to work on them in separate (already existing?) issues.

lisarex CreditAttribution: lisarex commentedI'm calling this a "first pass" :)
I've incorporated many of the other suggestions to the About and have committed them (it will deploy soon). I don't want to take time to address each point individually, but if there are some additional suggestions for copy, content etc, please add them here.

drummI deployed some code changing the about page, but I'm not sure if that gets everything here. Leaving open for Lisa to review.

lisarex CreditAttribution: lisarex commentedThe changes deployed are a great first pass. I'll leave it open a bit longer for BluPomplemous to review too.

Alex UA CreditAttribution: Alex UA commentedI'm not sure what happened to the about page, but it strike me as odd that there's no talk about what Drupal does on the about page. Is the assumption that people already know what it is when they arrive at about? Or is the single small link in the midst of all of the rest of the text supposed to be enough to guide people to the features page?
lisarex CreditAttribution: lisarex commentedThere's "Drupal is a free software package that allows you to easily organize, manage and publish your content, with an endless variety of customization." at the top, but it's not very noticeable. I'd really love to see this page become a node (could this improve our SEO too?)
Issue to make this a node #1009636: Update "About" page to be a node.
In the meantime, suggestions for text improvements would be great.

drummThis is no longer a development issue, so moving. Maybe it should be in the documentation project.

mgiffordOk, this looked nicer back in 2011 - https://web.archive.org/web/20110703102041/http://drupal.org/about
Than it does now https://drupal.org/about
Starting from the summary:
Many of these issues from the summary can be crossed off as done though.

lizzjoyI'm setting this to postponed because there is content strategy work happening and you can see the beginning of that work at https://www.drupal.org/news/content-strategy-update-february-2015 and https://www.drupal.org/node/2463205
