CMIS field not ready?

I don't know if the module will be updated soon or late, but are there plans for changing the CMIS field module?

I'm not sure what the main purpose for the field module is, but I think it's only meant to post a link of a directory that opens up the CMIS repository in Drupal?

Wouldn't it be good if the field is able to post files along with a title & description (while also using the Tree or Browser like in the CMIS repository, so users can select a file instead of typing the path)?

I don't know if the module will be maintained, or if there is the time for it, I just wanted to bring this up.
