When I send a test newsletter I get a blank page and the system then logs me out, and when I send a real newsletter, it never goes, just stays in pending.
I've spent a day and a half trying to get Simplenews working, but running into obstacle after obstacle. First I tried 6.1.x and my test newsletters were running and perfectly themed, then I tried sending a newsletter with cron, and it would not find my footer theme, but also emogrifier did not translate the styles to inline (although it worked great when I sent a test newsletter).
So I upgraded Simplenews from 6.1.x to 6.2.x, but I'm getting logged out when I send test emails and sending on cron just stays pending. I've cleared the cache, upteen times... I'm at a loss.
My Drupal version is 6.22, Simplenews 6.x-2.x-dev, Mime Mail 6.x-1.0-beta2, Simplenews Analytics 6.x-1.1, Simplenews Content Selection 6.x-2.x-dev, Simplenews Statistics 6.x-2.1

miro_dietikerSimplenews switches the login user to anonymous during sending.
If something fails, it also fails switching the user back.
The question is now: where exactly does it fail.
Only you will be able to help us since we cannot identify the cause behind a whitescreen.
Please consider consulting a developer to debug the cause and provide us more information.

tchopshop commentedI switched to the 6.2.x alpha2 (instead of dev), uninstalled Mime Mail and replaced it with HTML mail, and also turned off Analytics and Statistics. Now it's working. I didn't do all that in a systematic way, so I'm not sure what caused it to work. Now if I could just get emogrifier to work to turn my CSS inline, then I'd be done.
I'm so glad this module is moving forward!
If there were some place to contribute funds, I would, so let me know if there is.... I can't handle funding a whole ton of development, but I would love to put in something.

miro_dietikerI have no idea if Analytics and Statistics are currently supported by the 2.x release.
You will absolutely need to do the tests in a systematic way. In any other case we cannot reproduce things and help you.
Please report the state of analytics and statistics (if it breaks again when enabling one of them).
Dev should be no problem - or the next release would be broken. So please switch to dev back also.
(don't forget to update.php)
mimemail should also work..
Funds: There's the line "Your donations welcome" on the front simplenews page with a paypal link. We don't offer specific feature oriented chip-ins currently - from what i've seen there's too few willing to chipin and the development process gets even more frozen from waiting for those...

tchopshop commentedI went back to the dev version, reinstalled Mime Mail instead of HTML mail, and enabled Statistics and it's all working, so that means the culprit was likely the Analytics module.
Everything is now working perfectly, I'm happy to say!
Re: funds... I will put in a contribution in the next few days. And more later, as I move more clients to Simplenews away from other things. It is so worth it to not have to use expensive third party solutions!

miro_dietikerCool it works.
I would be happy to address the analytics integration...
We really miss 6.x-2.x and 7.x bounce management and analytics.
Once we have fixed that, we're ready for the next level.
I would be very happy if we can somehow push those feature as it makes simplenews very competitive to commercial applications.
Finally i consider an initiative that ALL themes should also provide code for themed HTML mails! Think about having clean html mails out of the box for all popular themes... :-)
Tell me we can join forces somehow.

tchopshop commentedWow, that is an incredible idea! When I was playing around with the HTML Mail and Echo modules, I had a sense that with enough finessing, you could accomplish something like that, but it was taking so long, and the inline css just wasn't working.
I really wish that enough people would come together to make Simplenews a real rival of the commercial apps. Why use Drupal then use a commercial app for mail?, it doesn't quite make sense to me... also I work with a lot of nonprofits and small businesses who just can't afford to do the commercial route.
I am designer who builds custom themes -- these days exclusively with Omega, because I love HTML5 and responsive design. But I wish I were a developer and could help you build the future of Simplenews.
I'm off to make a donation right now.
