whenever i try translate menus i get double menus...displayed twice both languages at the same time..

The interface to menu translation is not intuitive, but the help page for i18nmenus does explain it. The gist of it is you are using the Localization interface. I would rather see this through translation similar to what is available for nodes. I don't know why there are language options for menu items unless this is the direction that development is headed and they have the form controls and database fields for language but that has not yet been implemented to do anything.

I'm getting the very same issue and cannot find any clue on how to solve it. It keeps double menu items even if I get rid of i18.

I don't know if this is the same bug. Whenever I edit a localized menu item (e.g. a french or english menu item) it generates a new menu item of the same title instead of just editing it. The bug does not happen if I don't select a language for the menu item in the first hand.
