I appreciate the work that you all have done on DXMPP to make a functioning, stable and themable XMPP integration with Drupal.

But the other thing that XMPP Framework did was integrate with the Messaging module, which has been handy for me anyway. Users can receive notificiations of updates and new content over IM.

It looks to me like with DXMPP that this might not even be an option, since DXMPP is based on a JavaScript BOSH library. Would there be any way for messaging to even talk to Strophe on the back end?

My guess is that a PHP BOSH or straight XMPP library might be required but I wanted to check in here before I moved forward with it. Thanks!
