Problem/Motivation
Duplicate of or closely related to #1037002: New feature: Gallery containers
I am looking for a D7 compatible replacement for Menalto's gallery2 application and the D6 module that integrates it. Media Gallery looks very nice but does not yet have all the features. I particularly want to draw your attention to the hierarchical structure. See http://www.bromleyartsociety.org.uk/gallery/v/members/. There are too many galleries here for the flat "All galleries" view that you have, and some have a third level (JWolfe for instance).
Proposed resolution
Media Gallery is complicated! but I wonder if you could make a gallery one of the types that one can link to when "adding files".
Remaining tasks
(reviews needed, tests to be written or run, documentation to be written, etc.)
User interface changes
The other features that need to go with a hierarchical gallery are
(1) Choosing one of the daughter nodes (an image or another gallery) as a highlight, so that there is an image to show for it.
(2) A breadcrumb type navigation aid at the top, to let one go up the hierarchy. Clicking on a daughter node goes down. I did look at the fields in Media Gallery to see if I could add a "Parent Gallery" which would be another way to do this, but there is a lot to learn before I could do it myself.

nancydruIndeed. MG kind of reminds me of the old AcidFree module, except more modern. AF had hierarchies.
I have a site where I show pictures from a trip I took. I categorized the pictures into three groups. "Donna's Yard" just doesn't make sense as a top level gallery. It must be viewed in the context of the trip. This is actually one of the things holding me up from taking the site to D7.

helmo commentedWould indeed be really nice to have...
And looking at #1139266: specify directory path, it would be nice to suggest a sub-directory of the parent gallery for storage.

AFowleIt's close enough to merge the two. Funny, I searched for 'hierarchical' before I posted, but missed 'hierarchy.' There is a small difference, I want something the end users can click to "create sub-gallery" and the other post (1037002) appears to want something the site designer sets up. I can't see my end-users coping with taxonomy terms!
