When I create a poll, it creates the node, but doesn't actually write out any kind of form for voting at all, it's just an empty node. The block also says "No active Advanced Poll".

Can you check the access settings and make sure that you can view and vote on polls? Is the poll active?

the access control settings are correct, and unless there is some hidden control panel that I can't find, then the poll is active.

are there dependencies for this (other than votingapi)?

This version of Advanced Poll is not supported anymore. The issue is closed for this reason.
Please upgrade to a supported version and feel free to reopen the issue on the new version if applicable.
