If you use a better browser you might have seen the excellent google preview extension. The extension gives you a small thumbnail of the results of the sites you googled for. See for example the new drupal site in a thumb.

Now I would like to see this functionality as an option in weblink (but maybe other modules as well? maybe core?). For example when I add a weblink I have the option to add a [thumbimage:url, left] option.

What do you think? Someone willing / able to pick this up?

We should also:
look for favicon.ico,
look intelligent for a logo
A 80*60 display of a site says much less thatn a favicon.ico or a logo. At least, on most sites, since both logos and favicons are optimised for immediate regognition.

regarding favicons, see my rather old feature request.

It's an interesting feature, and something I'm willing to consider for the new Links Package, but the current release schedule won't permit it to be in the initial production release. I'll keep the feature request on file for consideration in the next release, though.
