I think it would be wonderful to have a small tool that would upload multiple images at once.

I need such functionality as well. If makara agree, I would port the module to D7.

I'm working on a port for Drupal 7. But it will take some time.

The logic behind the image/file upload is relatively complex and the are quite a lot changes between CCK (D6) and Fields (D7).
