I've been trying to deactivate this module. I've deleted the fields, but don't know why it's still listed as pending deletion.

I've run cron & cleared cache with same issue. Gone through & verified that the fields weren't there.

This module has been great, thanks for stepping in to fill the gap!

This is not a metatags_quick issue. Latest updates of drupal core introduced the rule that module that has active fields with data cannot be disabled. For the reference and possible solution, pls see #1284358: Unable to uninstall Fivestar. Required by Drupal (Fields Pending Deletion). (Fivestars) or #1307084: Document > Uninstalling the module (AddThis). If it does not help, I think you should open an issue in the core queue

Same issue here in disbling module node_reference.
Deleted field and didn't worked until cron ran. Solved.

Also had this issue with Block reference module, but running cron allowed me to disable and uninstall.

this solution worked for me #1530812: Field collection cannot uninstall cleanly due to "Required by: Drupal (Fields pending deletion)"
