Updating your websites

This checklist will help you update your websites by migrating them to an up-to-date platform.

1. Log in to your sentinel website and go to the page 'Available updates' to carefully read all the release notes of each module and theme with a new version available.
2. Download the latest versions of the Koumbit Platforms (kplatforms) project to update your makefiles.
3. Create a new platform using the kplatforms.sh script.
4. Migrate the sentinel website from the old platform to the new platform.
5. Verify that everything is fine with this updated site. At least take a look at the page 'admin/reports/status'.
6. Lock the old platform to force people to use the new one from now on.
7. Migrate the old platform to the new one. This will batch migrate all the sites in the platform.
8. Delete all the old platforms except the penultimate. It could be used as a regression platform in case of a problem with this update.
9. You may want to warn all site's owners that you have just updated their website. For example, you can use a mailing list or a micro-blogging service.
