Is there a way to debug the mobile devices using a browser that has firebug? It not simple to debug on the phone. I am thinking of just making the mobile theme my desktop theme... and debuging that...

Try using the user agent switcher addon for firefox, that lets you change the user agent to an iPhone for testing.
