Enabling this module provokes the User Permissions page to disappear. Pointing the browser to mysite.tld/admin/people/permissions I got a HTTP 500 Error (Internal Server Error). Disabling the module the page gets back working properly.

Exactly the same behaviour her. Enable module, no permissions page (blank).
disable modue, permissions page back.

I'm working on a Drupal 7 version for this module. The attached patch resolves this issue. At the least.
