Importing feeds from authors that have their own idea of how long a title might be will result in an sql error:
SQLSTATE[22001]: String data, right truncated: 1406 Data too long for column 'title' at row 1
You can test by importing one of the most favorite german weblogs: http://blog.fefe.de/rss.xml
The source of this error is the assumption that anything fetched from the web will never be longer than expected by the module developer - it is better to never make these kind of assumptions.
Trying to fix this via the UI I tried to generate my own importer to change the mapping - what revealed at least two more inconsistencies or UI problems - first there is no "body" or "text" field in the default rss_item content type - ok, this is easy to fix. But when I generate my own feed importer that has a mapping of e.g. title -> feed_body (e.g. for the content of the above rss feed) - how do I tell a new Feed to use that new importer with special mapping and not the default one? I can not find the place where to connect the feed with the importer I want - seems like this is not possible to achieve via the UI ??? If this is the case, then I will open a separate bug for this UI problem, but I am not sure yet, if my observation is correct.
Thanks for your attention!

megachrizThe title of a node is limited to 255 characters. If you want longer titles, then map it to a field that supports more characters.
You could also fix this by using one of the Text plugins from Feeds Tamper. For example the "Truncate" plugin to limit the title to 255 characters.
