RumpledElf commentedWe've written a module that is functionally equivalent to the taxonomy select part of HS for d7, it works great, doesn't throw the dozens of errors that HS does BUT it is a complete ground up rewrite. If anyone is interested in that part of it and wants a *working* module (also works with conditional fields) PM me, we don't have d.o commit access and haven't even put it in a sandbox yet. I doubt they'd let us make it a full module since it is such a close replication of HS but the lack of fixes on this module just got a bit too long to wait for.
It uses core api and so forth so is a *LOT* smaller than HS as far as lines of code go. HS was just too complex and custom to wade through and try and fix it, I'm quite enjoying having a nice taxonomy picker that actually works, I really needed it for my website, wasn't willing to wait for HS to get fixed and I see quite a few others in the issue queues here with the same problem.

Taxoman commentedWow, that sounds very interesting.

Well, if it is a complete re-write, given the state (and history...) of the HS module, I am quite sure you will get "permission" to create a separate project space for it. However, it would be great if you could first post a zip file of your code here to get more user input first, also from the current HS maintainer.

MrPhilbert commentedI'm curious what the folks at Drupal.org do when someone has abandoned a module?
It's interesting to note that Wim wrote an "article" on Planet Drupal that he is now looking for a job and noted that he is the creator and maintainer of H.S. How can he say he is the maintainer when he has not responded to anything in the issue queue since September? I also sent him an email through his own web site about three weeks ago asking what his intentions were reference H.S. and if he would like any help. He did not respond to that either. I am just now learning about how to use hooks in Drupal and would like to get involved in an alternate solution. I agree that it needs to be a complete re-write as (after looking at the code) H.S. is much more complicated than it needs to be. Hopefully we can get something going here.

dgastudio commentedWim is still active as mantainer of his another module: CDN. I'm really don't understand his silence on HS.

Taxoman commentedBumping.
This is both an important and somewhat prestigeous module, should not be hard to find one or two co-maintainers for it. The category on the project page should be changed to "Seeking co-maintainers".

stefan.r commentedWe are actually looking for co-maintainers, so if anyone is interested please contact me or Wim!

goldThe module page is currently in the needed state.
