If you use the tagging widget on other entities as node you get the notice message:

Undefined index: nid in tagging_field_widget_form() Zeile 89 .../tagging/tagging.field.inc.

and the normal suggestions don't work.

For example:
field_collection module creates a own entity - if you use the tagging field here you run into this problem.

Solution/Workaround:
we need to check if we are on a node and suppress the suggestions if not.

Well, thank you, so what we need here is:
1. documentate that entities are not supported by suggestions
2. check for entities and skip the suggestion widget if its not a node, as you suggested
