I'm using socialmedia (7.x-1.0-beta8) and widgets (7.x-1.0-beta3).

When I create a Widget set, if I don't check the Block checkbox in Visibility settings, a block is nevertheless produced and appears in admin/structure/block.

(In some cases blocks aren't needed, for example, when we just want to add share links in the teasers.)
