The Recent Image block shows no entries. I had some empty galleries that I thought might cause this, so I unpublished them; it remained empty. I also edited a gallery and an image to give them them most recent timestamp. The block is set not to cache, but I cleared caches to be safe. I'm going live this week and other editors will be working on galleries, so I set the issue to urgent.

You can use the block-settings for each gallery to show the recent gallery-images (only for one gallery/block). But i assume, you like to show the recent images of all galleries?

You can sort the view by showing the latest uploaded images (Content: Gallery media:fid) (as a workaround). For media, there is only a weight in the gallery and no date/timestamp stored, as i can see from the database.

Maybe this issue is also relevant for you #1246122: media_gallery_view() destroys $node->media_gallery_media.
