Group editing seems not to work (and field type regarding this not updated properly)

This can become huge.

But I am very surprised with the policy of etherpad regarding "public" edition and the server being always exposed and allowing to create new pads.
So I immediately checked the "group pad" feature on my etherpad field and it seems not to work.
I constantly get "You are not allowed to edit ..."

Then I changed the type of the pad to "public" in my type but to no avail ....

I then was struck by lightning and created a NEW content type with a pad field created as public by default.
And I was able to edit the pad, but it is public :(

So right now the group edit feature seems not to be working and changing the edit type of a field does nothing. I had a cursory look but there is a lot to take in and nothing obvious jumped to me.

I did put the pad server in debug mode and I paste here the console output in case it helps
