Paid module development: Rating Nodes in Comments

prattboy - May 25, 2007 - 18:58

We're willing to pay to have this developed or utilize existing modules to get this to reliably work. I'm seen bits and pieces of this here and there, but nothing totally like this. Please respond with your qualifications, estimated price, your timeline, and any questions you have.

When a user comments on a node of a specified content type, they should be able to rate the particular node on a series of criteria on a scale from one to five, preferably through a star scale such as that found at this link.

For example, when they leave a comment they are shown the following

Title:
Body:
Criteria 1 Score: * * * * *
Criteria 2 Score: * * * * *
Criteria 3 Score: * * * * *
Criteria 4 Score: * * * * *
Criteria 5 Score: * * * * *

When their comment is posted, their score for each criteria is displayed in a "star" format in addition to an overall average of all their scores in a star format. Additionally, the node should display an average of all criteria and an average overall score in a star format. The average overall score should also be available to the views module.

Fivestar & Voting APi

The Fivestar module will do the job.
Would be an realtive easy switch to use the css & js from your post if you know how to.

Slick!

I think you're right. That should work. I'm using Node Comments which allows me to add custom CCK fields to comments. Should just be a matter of some simple calculations to create an additional custom field for the overall score and a custom field in the node itself that averages all the overall scores.

The only problem is Node Comments replaces the core comments module that comes with Drupal. Since Forums depends on the comments module, I'm going to need to come up with another forum solution. Any additional ideas out there for a Forum replacement?

Alternative to 5 star module

dwees - May 28, 2007 - 13:07

I have a module that stores the reviews of the nodes as separate nodes (and then appends the reviews in collapsible fieldsets at the bottom of the nodes). It should be pretty straight forward to add the extra fields you want.

You can check it out by:

1. Go to http://unitorganizer.com/drupal5
2. Login as Esykes with password infinity8.
3. Navigate to a node (using 'Recent posts' on the side) and create a review of the node.

If you are interested in this module, let me know through my contact form here.

Nice!

Hey David. That looks really good. I like the idea of the reviews being separate nodes and not interfering with any core modules. For some reason, I'm unable to message you via the contact form on the site. Can you try messaging me, perhaps? I'd love to discuss this further with you.

Contact me not working

Apparently the contact form on Drupal isn't working. Try me at david_wees AT yahoo DOT com.

re: module

Part of the agreement I am forging with the creator of this original topic is that once I submit the module to him with the minor changes he wants, I will then create a project page and make it available to the general community.

Dave

That would be great its

teamrob - May 31, 2007 - 01:09

That would be great its looks pretty much exactly like what ive been trying to accomplish over last little while but there is a lot of confusion with all the rating/review options in drupal.

We're still working on

prattboy - June 4, 2007 - 12:56

We're still working on forging an agreement. All the waiting is my fault, not the developer's, and I hope to have something worked out in the next couple days.
