More WYSIWYG editor choices

carl_d - June 4, 2007 - 20:41

Hi,

This may not be the right forum because this is kind of a feature request. It would be nice to have more of a choice when it comes to selecting a WYSIWYG editor.

More specific?

Michelle - June 4, 2007 - 20:45

There are already several choices for WYSIWYG so this feature request doesn't really say anything. What is lacking in the current choices?

That said, sticking a feature request in the general discussion that basically wants someone to write a new module for you is not likely to get you anything. You'd be better off picking the module that's closest to your needs and filing specific feature requests on that module for what you need.

Clarrification

carl_d - June 4, 2007 - 20:59

Hi Michelle,

Yes, I should have clarified. I read this article and the top 2 choices look really good.

Sorry, not exactly sure what you mean by write a new module. I don't want anyone to do anything special just for me.

Module

Michelle - June 4, 2007 - 21:34

In order for an editor to work with Drupal, a module has to be written to support it. So your feature request is asking someone to write a module. That sort of feature request generally doesn't happen. People write modules either because they have a need for it or because someone paid them. It would be rare for someone to just volunteer to write a module for an editor that they have no need for.

That's why a better feature request would be towards making one of the existing choices better.

Which additional editors

Jeff Burnz - June 4, 2007 - 20:55

Which additional editors were you thinking of? Just interested to hear your opinion.

There are various shades of editor / tag insertion modules available - what about these doesn't suit?

TinyMCE
FCKeditor
HTMLarea
BUeditor
widgEditor
Quicktags
WYMeditor

Somewhere I recall seeing the beginnings of a Kupu integration, that might be nice.

Also a tonne of filters to choose from etc.

EditOnPro or XStandard

carl_d - June 4, 2007 - 21:08

I think XStandard would be my first choice because it supports authoring of definition lists and it's freeware. I am planning on using a lot of dl's on a site I am working on.

Sorry again for not providing more details.

What about HotEditor?

maikreynolds - June 6, 2007 - 00:16

Hey guys!

What about WYSIWYG HotEditor ?

http://www.ecardmax.com/hoteditor/phpdemo.php

VB Forum has a WYSIWYG Editor which when user click Submit button, it will generate BBCode instead of HTML. HotEditor is the second one I know that can do the same job (properly better job than VB).

Why better? because

+ it supports Safari
+ it allows you to add your own bbcode buttons to toolbar
+ I found it's so easy to add smiley, clipart, wordart icons
+ it outputs a clean bbcode which you can use php to convert bbcode to xhtml
+ you can use internal function WriteHTML() to insert any HTML code to editor
+ HotEditor supports Cut Copy & Paste in FireFox & Opera browser while other editor can't

If someone intend to write a WYSIWYG MOD for Drupal please use HotEditor. I can't wait

Thanks
