Unable to view flash content
Qudsiyya - June 7, 2007 - 05:28
Hello,
I am using Drupal 5 and Zen fixed theme.
Recently I downloaded Flash node and SWF Tools. I am trying to create a flash node. I successfully upload the swf file. I am able to view the file in IE but not in firefox.
any ideas?
Regards,

Need some more info...
I'm not sure if this is flashnode bug or an swftools bug, or something else. I just tested flash node again on my local system (Windows + Firefox 2.0.0.4) and it appears to working (tried all the available embedding methods and all ok).
What platform / version of Firefox are you using?
Are you unable to view the content using ANY embedding method (including direct embedding which does not use any javascript)?
It would also be worth posting this to the issue queue for flashnode/swftools so it is easier to track.
It sounds daft, but have you double checked that you have the flash plug in for Firefox installed?! My add-in got removed somehow a while back and that had me puzzled for ages! I had to download it again from Adobe.

Re: Need some more info
Well I am using windows xp and firefox 2.0.4 as well.
I am sorry but I am not sure about this. This is first time I am trying to embed flash into drupal.
Yes I am sure its there.I can view other flash sites perfectly well eg www.ufone.com
Try...
Have you opened the SWFTools admin page at any point - I *think* I read a bug logged against SWFTools it whereby flash doesn't display if you haven't specifically given it an embedding setting. The problem is fixed if you go to the Admin page, choose a setting and re-save the configuration (bug report here). {Although if it is working under IE then I don't see why it doesn't under FireFox, but worth a shot!}
On your site go to Administer > SWFTools > Embedding settings.
Open the javascript section, and to start with try selecting Embed Flash Directly. Even if this is already marked as the current setting click on "Save configuration" at the bottom of the page.
Then try viewing a page under Firefox. Does it work?
Then come back to the SWFTools admin page and try one of the javascript methods (don't forgot you have to download the required javascript files separately -the admin page will show "Missing" in red for methods that aren't currently available).
Then try viewing again - does it work with a script method?
Lastly, do you have a link to the page that isn't working? I can test that from my end and that might shed some light on why things aren't working (i.e. is it the page that has a problem, or the browser itself).
One more thought - if you visit my home page (link below) using Firefox do you see the animation on the home page - very first post on the page? That is being generated using flash node and SWFTools (using UFO embedding).

Thanx its fixed
Hi,
Thanx a lot of explaining things in so much detail. It was a great help. I was able to view the flash content on your home page. Only the flash content on my drupal site was not visible in firefox.
I went to Administrator > SWFTools > Embedding settings > Javascript embedding. Embed Flash Directly was already selected. I just clicked save configuration and everything was fixed :)
Drupal acts funny at times :)

thanks Stuart
flash didn't show on my site either and I followed your directions. It worked for me too! Thanks a lot!
i don't have the SWFTools
i don't have the SWFTools installed on my site and I'm not able to see YouTube videos on my site (just in IE, the rest are fine). Should I be installing the SWFTools module just to get it working? Or would there be another cause?
I'd rather not install yet another module on my site if I don't have to.
I got around this issue by
I got around this issue by using the 'filtered HTML' input format and customize that format to allow most HTML tags and excluded the and tags (as they are the ones causing the problem with the embed code you get from YouTube. I don't know if this has any other repercussions for other embedded codes but you could create a custom input format that you choose on just nodes with YouTube code embedded.
