Hi,

I'm developing a new website and I have to build thewebsite with content in english, chinese, japanese, portuguese, german and spanish. i enabled the modules content translation and locale and installed ocalization update and localization client. I followed the guide at http://drupal.org/node/1497176 but do not know yet, how i can switch between the languages, do I need to create a sepperate content for all the languages? If so, how do switch from one to another language and how do I tell the content what language it is in?
Some assistance would be appreciated!

You have to choose the Detection and Selection mode in:
Home » Administration » Configuration » Regional and language » Languages

I think it comes with internationalization module: http://drupal.org/project/i18n
Enable the way you want to use and set the hierarchy.
If you want you can use the block "language switcher" in Structure blocks configuration page:
