Setting up FFMEPG (and making it work) means always trouble and in some hosted environments it's utterly impossible to install.
Hey!Watch (heywatch.com) offers a service (REST API) to encode videos (max length up to 45 minutes) and sends the results automatically back to your server (FTP) or Amazon S3. Pricing looks fair (0.10$ per video) and they support a large variety of formats.
So IMHO, offering Hey!Watch as an alternative to FFMEPG would be really great.

travist commentedI will look into this... I am already working on the next version of FlashVideo, but I believe the next release will just be a bug fix release. Maybe the release after can be a new feature release.
I will keep you informed. Sounds like a great service. :)

phillamb168 commentedHey there,
I've started working on a CCK field that sends uploaded data to heywatch and then sends the encoded version either to an S3 account (returning the S3 url) or back to the originating filesystem. Any ideas on implementation or other features are greatly appreciated! :)

travist commentedThat sounds like a great idea! It sounds like you are on the right track, and a lot of people will appreciate your efforts. Thank you for the initiative.

hubrt commentedHi Phil,
any progress with the Hey!Watch S3 already? Anything we should test?
What kind of input would you need?
travist commentedI personally have been slammed lately, so I have not had a chance to work on it. I might be able to look into it when I have time to port FlashVideo to Drupal 6.x.
Thanks,
Travis.

phillamb168 commentedWell it's been a WHILE since I posted about this, but I'm going to be taking some downtime over the holiday to work on this some more. I had the HeyWatch CCK stuff almost completed and then my laptop was stolen - no backups. Pwnd. Will update as soon as I have more.

travist commentedSorry to hear about your computer....
Again, I appreciate your efforts on adding this to FlashVideo. Let me know if you have any questions.
Travis.

phillamb168 commentedJust an update, I'm about 75% complete on the HeyWatch module - http://drupal.org/project/heywatch - nothing there that functions yet, but as soon as I get it working (see the module page for timelines) I'll post here again.
