Hello,
I would like to share my difficulties in dealing with image gallery and also the Internationalization in Drupal.

I have my previous Localizer module and some translated nodes by Localizer module. I hope you can have something like importer for the translated nodes by Localizer module. ( http://drupal.org/project/localizer )

Problem with Internationalization (i18n)
- I don't wanna go for i18n module because I hate the 'sudden logout' problem.
- It doesn't have the importer for translated nodes by Localizer module.

About that 'sudden logout' please open a separate bug report and add more details.
About the 'importer' feature, we are upgrading for Drupal 6 and new features will be done for that version first, may be backported later.

Is there any option to upgrade or convert a drupal 5 site with localizer
to i18n without loosing the existing translations?

No patch so far. And late for new features for 6.x
