I'm new to Panels and did some searching, but everything I found is over my head.

All I need to know is if I have an existing node created can I create a panel and "apply" it to that node. For instance, say I have plain Jane, boring node/45, and then I create a panel. Can I enter node/45 as the panel URL when creating the panel?

It doesn't look like it, but want to be sure before I redo some stuff.

Thanks,

Is there a particular reason for wanting to replace an existing node? Deep-linking target?

As a non-coding semi-newbie, Panels was a god-send. It is a means for users like me to create "regions" without coding, like a layout wizard for a big and flexible brochure page. You stick (assign) existing nodes, blocks or views into the appropriate slots, and you have a pretty decent page with minimal maintenance. And, you name your Panel with a URL that you can point to. In your case, you would want to assign "node/45" to one of the panels/slots, and surround it with "stuff."

Not sure if I helped or confused.

I have to thank merlinofchaos many times over for Panels and Views. And his wit.

Panels give you the ability to arrange Blocks into various layouts.

You can use Node As Block (contributed module) to turn a node into a Block.

Then you can use your Node in a Panel layout.

Hi!

I have been putting my nodes directly into slots. Are there advantages to making them into blocks first before doing so?

I don't use the nodeasblock module, so it would be another module to load (with the proportional resources). If it is worthwhile, I will look; having alternatives is a good thing!

Thanks!

No advantage what-so-ever,

I've actually discovered that I don't need Node As Block to put a node into a Panel, but I do if I want it in a Block (sidebars).

Another thing about Drupal I didn't know.
