is there anyway we can restrict user by role to edit only unpublished content and the content that is published is not available for edit already?

Today, edit permissions are separate from this module.

Changing to a feature request, but I'm not sure I want it... couldn't Workflow work for this?

workflow seems in capable of solving this though

tried it, workflow seems can not help.. and got problem with the organic group permission options, any clue on solutions?

The module Publish Content helps with this problem.

IMHO, Publish Content and View Unpublished should get together...
