Hi,
I just installed the Meta Tags module on my client's Drupal 7.14 site. I simply want to add Meta Tag Description and Keywords to the site. I followed the installation instructions, including installing Ctools and Token, which are needed. I've tried a number of ways to add the page and site description and every time I view the source of my page, there is no meta description tag.
Can anyone give step by step instructions of how to add the meta description and keywords tags using the meta tags module. I'm at the point where I've installed the meta tags module, plus Ctools and Token. I've enabled all of them.
Thanks,
JH

After you enable the modules,
After you enable the modules, you should get a Meta Tags vertical tab on node edit pages. There you should be able to enter values for the keywords and description. When you then view the node and bring up page source, you should see the values you entered. I'd suggest to try this first and if it does not work go from there. Hope this helps... :)

After entering in the meta tags
I followed your instruction and while logged into the site, I could see the meta description and keywords tags in the view source. However, when I logged out and went to the public page, they were absent from the view source. Any suggestions?
Sounds like it is cached.
Sounds like it is cached. Clear the cache and see if that helps. Good luck!

Still not showing in public view
I cleared my browser cache, then cleared the Drupal Cache (Admin/configuration/performance/Clear all caches). At first I had a memory limitation error. Went to my webhost and had them up the memory to 64 MB. It was running at 18 MB and erroring out when clearing the cache and running other Ctool and Token stuff. After the memory change and web server reboot, the caches cleared successfully.
Then I logged out and checked the view source on my home page. Same status - no meta description or keywords tags.
Any other ideas? Should I consider another module?
Thanks,
John H.
Problem Solved - Sort Of -- with Meta Tags Quick
Since Meta Tags with Ctools and Token weren't getting the job done, I decided to scrap them and install Meta Tags Quick. It was much faster and less complicated. Once configured, the meta description and meta keywords fields displayed on the edit page as part of the regular content edit page as opposed to the vertical menu.
After entering in the meta description and keywords fields, I saved the page and viewed the source while logged in. Oddly enough, the meta tags did not appear. However, when I logged out and viewed the page as an anonymous user, the meta description and keywords tags were in the view source. It was the opposite condition from the Meta Tags module with CTools and Token.
I'm not going to complain. I got these meta tags where I want them, but you'd think that you should see those meta tags whether you are logged in or logged out.
I owe a debt of gratitude to the developer of Meta Tags Quick.

I'm glad you found a solution
I'm glad you found a solution that works -- I haven't used metatags_quick but it is good to know of it, thanks for following up to let us know what worked!
I have not ever had the problem you mentioned with metatag that was not solved by clearing the cache -- I am wondering if it is a theme issue. There are some issues in the queue for metatag that relate to this. Just noting it here in case someone else comes upon this thread. Since you have a solution working for you using metatags_quick you probably do not need to worry about it. :) Continued good luck!

Same story here...
I've spent the last couple hours trying to install this module. The "Metatags UI" sub-module doesn't even exist except for the .info file. I get a field in my content types under "manage fields" but that is it. I tried to add some stuff to the global metatag settings but nothing gets me to a point where the form actually shows on the node edit pages. Going to try Meta Tags Quick. Quick is probably what I want right now!
